Whether you’re struggling with a first draft or a tenth, One Story’s Winter Workshop will help you develop a clear plan for revising your manuscript. Along the way, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of fiction’s inner workings, become part of a close-knit literary community, and work with your instructor, author and One Story Associate Editor Ann Napolitano. The class will consist of no more than 10 students and will meet weekly on Wednesday evenings from 7:00pm - 9:30pm at the One Story Inc. office in Gowanus, Brooklyn.

Instructor:

Ann Napolitano is the author of the novels A Good Hard Look and Within Arm’s Reach and the associate editor at One Story. She received an MFA from New York University; she has taught fiction writing for Brooklyn College’s MFA program, New York University’s School of Continuing and Professional Studies and for Gotham Writers’ Workshop. Application Guidelines:

This workshop is open to fiction writers 21 years of age and older.

The deadline to apply for the workshop is January 11, 2017. There is a $10 application fee. All submissions must be sent through One Story’s Submission Manager. Choose the genre “In-Person Workshop” when submitting your application. Admissions to this class are rolling. Applicants will be notified of acceptance no later than January 11th.

We are seeking applicants who are excited about a career in fiction writing and ready for a fun and productive workshop. Applicants will be chosen based on the strength of their portfolio and their personal statement.

The Portfolio:

Your submitted portfolio should contain up to 20 pages of fiction that you would like to workshop during the week. The manuscript you turn in will be what is workshopped in class. Submissions should follow this format:

The Personal Statement:

On the submission form in the “comments” box, please include a 150 - 300 word personal statement explaining why you would like to attend the ​workshop and where you are in your writing career. Applications without a personal statement will not be considered.
