Join author and publishing professional Martin Wilson for a 10-person online workshop focused on helping fiction writers craft polished short stories or novel excerpts through constructive feedback from the instructor and fellow classmates. Readings of published work will be assigned in addition to the workshop stories to illuminate craft elements and demonstrate different approaches to fiction writing. Class discussions will focus on craft and will aim to generate useful feedback for students wishing to further their creative development.

The class will meet and discuss student work once a week on Zoom starting Tuesday, February 15th. Tuition includes a 30-minute independent meeting with the instructor.

Martin Wilson is the author of the novels What They Always Tell Us (Delacorte, 2008) and We Now Return to Regular Life (Dial Books for Young Readers, 2017). Wilson’s work has also appeared in Tin House, One Teen Story, and other publications. He has taught fiction writing at the University of Florida and at Mt. Holyoke College. He works as a publicist in book publishing and lives in New York City.

How to Apply:
This workshop is open to fiction writers 21 years of age and older. The deadline to apply for the workshop is Monday, January 31st, at 11:59pm ET. Please send in your application, which should consist of a personal statement and a manuscript (5000 words or less) of what you would like to workshop, via Submittable.

We are seeking writers who are looking to hone their craft and are excited to learn from each other and the instructor in an intimate and supportive environment. Workshop participants will be selected based on the strength of their writing sample and personal statement.

There is a non-refundable $10 application fee. Please note that to be eligible for the Member rate, applicants must be an active Member of One Story prior to January 31st. Members commit to annual donations and receive benefits that allow them to participate in the organization in more meaningful ways. Not all One Story subscribers are members. Applicants will be notified of their status no later than February 8th.
